Allegra Spender was born in Sydney on 10 March 1978, daughter of former Liberal politician and diplomat John Spender and fashion designer Carla Zampatti. She attended Ascham School in Sydney before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Cambridge and a Master of Science in Organisational Psychology from the University of London, as well as completing business courses at Harvard and Dartmouth College.
