Andrew James Bragg was born on 11 July 1984, born in Melbourne and grew up in Shepparton, Victoria. He attended local Catholic schools before studying accounting at the Australian National University, later completing a Master of Financial Regulation from Macquarie University. Prior to politics he worked for the Financial Services Council. He became a Senator for New South Wales in 2019 as a member of the Liberal Party. [source]

Immigration verified

In a December 2025 address to the Centre for Independent Studies on housing, Bragg said 'cutting migration will not singularly fix the housing crisis, but reducing it will help demand,' and argued migration policy should prioritise bringing in people 'who can actually build homes,' noting Australia is short 80,000 tradies while receiving only 4,000 on visas in the prior year.

Economic nationalism verified

In his 2019 maiden speech, Andrew Bragg argued against protectionism, saying "this nation will never have enough domestic capital to meet our high ambitions" and that "the argument that we should close down foreign investment is akin to raising the tariff walls." He said "almost one-quarter of our economy is exports... we simply cannot afford to take protectionist risks," while adding Australia "must maintain a liberal approach to trade and foreign investment whilst ensuring we do all the appropriate due diligence, and reserve the right to legislate to protect Australia's security, economic and social interests."

Bragg was a British citizen by descent (his father and three grandparents were born in the United Kingdom) until renouncing it in December 2017, before his 2019 election to the Senate.
