Michaelia Clare Cash was born on 19 July 1970 in Subiaco, Western Australia, one of four children of Ursula Clare Yelland and Samuel Ernest "George" Cash, and grew up in the suburb of Mount Lawley. She holds an Honours Degree in Law from the University of London and a Bachelor of Arts (Social Science) from Curtin University with a triple major in public relations, politics and journalism. Foreign policy & aid verified

As Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cash affirms ANZUS and the AUKUS submarine pact as enduring alliances and describes the Five Eyes partnership and the Quad as of vital importance (May 2025). On the Middle East she takes a strongly pro-Israel position, in August 2025 calling the Albanese government's decision to "unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state ahead of a proper peace process" reckless and accusing the government of mismanaging the Australia-Israel relationship.
