Anoulack Chanthivong was born on 20 July 1977 in Laos and arrived in Australia at about age six after his family fled in the early 1980s, crossing into Thailand and spending time in a refugee camp before resettling in the Sydney suburb of Raby. He attended Robert Townson Public School and Robert Townson High School in Raby, then completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Sydney, followed by postgraduate studies in economics and public administration at the University of Sydney and the London School of Economics. Abortion & reproductive policy verified

As a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly, voted in favour of the Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019 (which became the Abortion Law Reform Act 2019, decriminalising abortion in NSW) at both the second reading (8 Aug 2019) and the third reading (final passage, 8 Aug 2019), on a conscience vote.

Voluntary assisted dying verified

Anoulack Chanthivong voted against (Noes) the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 at its third reading in the Legislative Assembly on 26 November 2021 (Assembly third reading, which passed 52 votes to 32). The Act was a conscience vote and became the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022 (NSW).

Housing & planning verified

As Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading, Chanthivong championed the NSW rental reforms ending no-grounds evictions, saying 'Around a third of the people in NSW rent and they deserve secure and fair housing.' The reforms require landlords to give a reason to end both periodic and fixed-term tenancies.
