Susan Higginson was born in Cornwall, England, moved to Preston at age two, and around age ten in the early 1980s moved with her family to Melbourne, Australia. She graduated from Southern Cross University with a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours in 2004, receiving the University Medal. Voluntary assisted dying verified

Sue Higginson voted in favour of (Ayes) the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 at its third reading in the Legislative Council on 19 May 2022 (Council third reading, which passed 23 votes to 15). The Act was a conscience vote and became the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022 (NSW).

Drugs & law and order verified

Greens MLC and justice spokesperson who has consistently opposed the Minns Government's youth bail law changes (section 22C of the Bail Act 2013). On the February 2025 three-year extension of the laws she said sending more young people to prison was "an indictment on the premier," criticising the government for gauging success on prison numbers. In an August 2025 statement she described the laws as "locking up more children and young people, for longer, before they have even been found guilty," noted nearly 60% of detained youth are First Nations, said "locking up kids is the most criminogenic thing we can do to them," and called instead to "invest in diversion, prevention, and community-led programs, not more prison beds for kids."

Native forest logging verified

Greens MLC Higginson is a leading advocate for ending native forest logging in NSW, calling for the government to 'end native forest logging across NSW' and to follow Western Australia and Victoria in halting operations. On the Great Koala National Park (7 Sep 2025) she said: 'We are jubilant that 176,000 hectares of our public native forests on the Mid North Coast are finally off the logging schedule.' She has repeatedly described the Forestry Corporation as a 'serial offender.'

Nuclear & uranium verified

Voted NOE on the second reading of the Uranium Mining and Nuclear Facilities (Prohibitions) Repeal Bill 2025 in the NSW Legislative Council on 6 May 2026 — i.e. voted to keep NSW's 1986 ban on uranium mining and nuclear facilities. The bill nonetheless passed 21–19.
