Abortion & reproductive policy news report
Paech supported the 2017 Termination of Pregnancy Law Reform Bill during the parliamentary debate, tabling and criticising as 'offensive and racist' a Right to Life media release about Aboriginal population control. This reflects a stated position in support during the debate on the bill, which passed 20-4.
Gender & LGBTQ+ policy news report
In his maiden speech to the NT Legislative Assembly on 19 October 2016, Paech said "I am young, I am gay, I am black," called for same-sex marriage recognition ("I look forward to the day when this country will recognise my rights as equal rights, when I too can marry in my country"), and stated "I will never allow or tolerate discrimination, homophobia or hate speech in this Assembly." This is a stated position; Paech is the first openly gay Indigenous MP in Australia.
Religious freedom news report
Recorded vote / sponsor: as Labor Attorney-General Paech introduced and voted for the 2022 Anti-Discrimination Amendment Bill that removed religious-school hiring exemptions, describing criticism of its hate-speech provisions as 'fearmongering.' Stated position: in 2025 he opposed the CLP's amendments, posting that 'we do not support the CLP's attempt to water down our anti-discrimination laws.'
Drugs & law and order news report
Paech, as former Labor Attorney-General, introduced laws raising the age of criminal responsibility and reforming adult mandatory sentencing; as Shadow Attorney-General he opposed the CLP's bail changes and lowering the age to 10, saying 'changing bail laws is not addressing root causes' and calling the legislation a 'purely punitive measure that will ultimately make our communities less safe' that sets children up to 'become career criminals'.
