Ralph Emmanuel Didier "Deej" Babet was born on 29 June 1983 on the island of Rodrigues, part of Mauritius, and spoke French as his first language; he and his family migrated to Australia in 1990 when he was seven, becoming an Australian citizen in 1993. He grew up in Doveton, attending Holy Family Catholic Primary School and St John's Regional College in Dandenong, and later earned a Bachelor of Business from Swinburne University of Technology and an advanced diploma in sales and marketing from Chisholm Institute. Immigration verified

Babet has called for sharply reduced immigration, stating in February 2024 that "Multiculturalism has failed Australia," and supported the 2025 "March for Australia" anti-mass-immigration rallies, attending the Brisbane rally alongside One Nation senators Pauline Hanson and Malcolm Roberts; the march's organisers publicised his endorsement.

Babet's X profile bio self-identifies him as "Christ is King. ✝️ Roman Catholic. Christian nationalist." Wikipedia records that he was raised Catholic, attending Holy Family Catholic Primary School and St John's Regional College after his family migrated from Mauritius.

In his August 2022 first speech Babet emphasised Australian superannuation funds being invested locally to boost the domestic economy. In a 24 June 2026 Senate speech he said "For my entire life, we have been promised smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom," arguing both major parties instead delivered "higher taxes, more debt, more regulation, more bureaucracy and less freedom," and calling for less government, less regulation and lower taxes; his March 2026 newsletter "The Government Has a Spending Problem" argues per-person spending has grown at roughly twice the pace of per-person tax for two decades.

Foreign policy & aid verified

Babet publicly celebrated Donald Trump's November 2024 election win and is a vocal Trump supporter. In October 2022 he defended recognising West Jerusalem as Israel's capital, saying "every nation has the right to determine its own capital, and making an exception of Israel is discriminatory," and later criticised Melbourne City Council for debating a Gaza ceasefire motion, saying "neither Hamas nor the Israeli government is awaiting instruction from the Melbourne City Council."

Born on Rodrigues in the Republic of Mauritius and an Australian citizen since 1993, Ralph Babet renounced his Mauritian citizenship in March 2022, before taking his Senate seat, to satisfy section 44(i) eligibility.

Gender & LGBTQ+ policy verified

On 10 November 2024 Babet posted that if elected to power he would "eradicate the radical elements within the LGBTQIA2S+ agenda and relegate it to the dustbin of history". The Senate censured him on 18 November 2024 (46–12, motion moved by Senator Penny Wong). He co-signed Senator Alex Antic's November 2023 bill to ban gender-affirming medical care for trans youth, criticised a local Pride festival in October 2025 as "pushing this radical LGBTQIA2S+ agenda" and in April 2026 said of Ireland's defence minister that "Woman [sic] should not be ministers of defence. They are biologically incapable."
