Colbeck called for a Senate inquiry into the Australian metals manufacturing industry, stating "these assets need to be supported and protected, because... if we lose these assets, it will be nearly impossible to recover them," and that "a 'Future Made in Australia' needs to be more than just a catchphrase" with government supporting existing facilities. He has also advocated for protecting jobs in Tasmanian salmon, forestry and other regional industries.
