Ashton Morgan Hurn was born on 14 January 1991 and was raised in Angaston, South Australia; she is the granddaughter of Brian Hurn, a former mayor of Barossa Council, and the sister of AFL player Shannon Hurn. She attended Nuriootpa High School, was a South Australian Institute of Sport netballer who played in the state's representative 19-and-under team in 2010, and studied social sciences at university.
