Katrine Anne Hildyard was born on 1 April 1970 in Adelaide and grew up in Netley in a single-parent family with her brother and two sisters. She attended Plympton High School and later studied a Bachelor of Arts at Flinders University as a mature-age student, and is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Governor's Leadership Foundation.
