In February 2019, Templeman supported the 'medevac' bill enabling medical transfers of refugees from offshore processing facilities, saying the amendments "are about making sure sick and vulnerable people in regional processing facilities can receive the medical care they need, without compromising existing border protection arrangements," and accusing the Coalition of "misrepresenting ALP policy on this issue."

Speaking at Labor's national conference (18 August 2023), Templeman supported prioritising recognition of Palestine, saying 'the extreme right-wing policies of the Netanyahu government that speed up the expansion of settlements are a serious impediment to the two-state solution that we are all committed to', and backed 'the call our platform makes for the recognition of Palestine as an issue of priority'.
