Jeremy Rockliff was born on 5 February 1970 in Devonport, Tasmania, son of Richard "Rick" and Geraldine Rockliff; his father's family had farmed at Sassafras since the 1850s, farming potatoes and opium poppies and working for Tasmanian Alkaloids. He grew up on the family farm at Sassafras, and after matriculating in 1987 worked on a cattle and sheep property near Hagley before spending two years at Lincoln University in New Zealand, where he received a Diploma in Farm Management, then returned to Tasmania to manage the family property at Sassafras. Voluntary assisted dying verified

Recorded vote: in the House of Assembly division on the second reading of the End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Bill 2020 on 4 December 2020, Jeremy Rockliff (listed as 'Mr Rockliff') voted Aye, in favour. He told Parliament he would support the bill after having voted against three previous voluntary assisted dying bills. The bill passed 17 Ayes to 7 Noes.

Rockliff voted for the Greens-sponsored 2015 motion supporting same-sex marriage (which passed the House 15-9), stating he was "absolutely unequivocally in favour of same-sex marriage equality"; as Premier in 2022 he committed to banning conversion practices, saying "I will be leading the change" and that change was needed given the harm to wellbeing. As Premier, Rockliff told Parliament on 15 May 2024 'There will be no weakening of the Anti-Discrimination Act. I will absolutely rule that out,' responding to calls (including from Archbishop Porteous) to amend the Act; he earlier voted for Tasmania's 2015 in-principle motion supporting same-sex marriage. Stated position: Premier Rockliff opposes drug decriminalisation and adopts a 'tough on crime' stance. He defended the government's youth crime crackdown in March 2024, saying he made 'no apologies' and that Tasmanians had 'a gutful' of youth crime, and in April 2025 said on 'adult crime, adult time' laws 'Yes, we will, absolutely. All options are on the table.' In July 2025 he said 'Community safety must come first' while pledging to also divert young people from the justice system.

Animal welfare verified

As Tasmanian Premier (Liberal), announced on 10 August 2025 that greyhound racing would be phased out in Tasmania by 30 June 2029, when the industry's funding deed expires, citing concerns about animal welfare and the industry's future. The government legislated the phase-out (bill cleared the House of Assembly). Rockliff said 'the time had come to make a call on the future of greyhound racing' and that he was 'concerned about animal welfare.' Supports ending greyhound racing.
