Gender & LGBTQ+ policy verified
MLC for South-Eastern Metropolitan, elected 2018 for the Liberal Democrats and now a member of the Libertarian Party. In February 2021 he announced he would vote against (and voted against) the Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Bill, arguing on libertarian grounds that it 'tramples over several human rights' in the Victorian Charter including freedom of thought, conscience, religion and expression, and that adults should be free to approach faith leaders about their lives. He framed his opposition as the government not interfering in private choices rather than support for conversion practices. In October 2023 he spoke for, and voted for, Moira Deeming's motion calling for an inquiry into gender-affirming care (defeated 21-16).
