Mulholland (Liberal) sponsored the petition (nearly 11,000 signatures) to retain the Lord's Prayer in Legislative Council proceedings, debated 31 July 2024. He argued 'This place is deeply rooted in traditions and our Christian foundations that have made our democracy so strong,' and wrote that 'any attempt to remove faith from Parliament - the public square - must be resisted at all costs,' adding that representatives 'make decisions informed by our values, and those values at times are inseparable from our faith.' The Labor government subsequently abandoned plans to replace the prayer.
