Voted YES (Ayes) on the third reading of the Abortion Legislation Reform Bill 2023 in the WA Legislative Council on 20 September 2023, supporting the bill's passage. On 19 March 2026 he introduced the Misuse of Drugs (Lawful Personal Use of Cannabis) Amendment Bill 2026 in the Legislative Council, which would amend the Misuse of Drugs Act 1981 to allow adults to cultivate up to six cannabis plants at their primary residence, possess up to 50 grams for personal use, and gift up to 50 grams to other adults (no commercial sale, no public use, no use around children), and would void existing infringement notices for conduct made lawful. He framed it as 'treating adults like adults' and argued the decades-long prohibition is 'without merit' since medicinal cannabis was legalised in 2016. He became party leader in May 2024 and was re-elected in the 2025 state election.
