Abortion & reproductive policy verified
Voted YES (Ayes) on the third reading of the Abortion Legislation Reform Bill 2023 in the WA Legislative Council on 20 September 2023, supporting the bill's passage. The bill decriminalised abortion (removing it from the Criminal Code), removed mandatory counselling and the doctor-referral requirement, and raised the gestational limit for additional restrictions from 20 to 23 weeks. The third reading passed 25 Ayes to 6 Noes.
Religious freedom verified
Labor MLC who, as Parliamentary Secretary representing Attorney General Tony Buti, responded to Maryka Groenewald's question without notice on the Australian Christian Freedom Index in the Legislative Council (question put 9 June 2026). Reading from prepared notes, Caddy confirmed the Government was aware of the Index and stated that 'the various Christian communities make valuable contributions to the lives of many Western Australians.' His response contained no specific pledge on Christian freedom of expression, committing instead to Equal Opportunity legislation that is 'fair and effective' and 'achieves a balance between the rights and interests of the diverse community living in our State.'
