Voluntary assisted dying verified

Libby Mettam voted FOR the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2019 in the WA Legislative Assembly. On the conscience (free) vote, the member is recorded in the Ayes at the bill's second reading on 3 September 2019 (passed 44-12) and at the third reading on 24 September 2019 (passed 45-11).

Gender & LGBTQ+ policy verified

Liberal MLA (Vasse), former WA Liberal leader. Mettam has campaigned to ban puberty blockers and transgender health care for under-18s, making it a central plank of her pitch to be premier at the 2025 election. On 14 December 2024 she said Australia should follow the UK and immediately ban puberty blockers for youth gender dysphoria, urging MPs to "simply put the ideology aside, look at the evidence" and stating "We must ensure that the treatment of children and young people with gender dysphoria is safe in the long term as well as the short term." Reporting noted she declined to meet with parents of transgender youth in her own electorate concerned about her approach.
