Labor MLA for Scarborough, openly gay, one of six openly LGBT MPs elected to the WA parliament at the 2021 state election. On 19 April 2022, during debate on the Health and Disability Services (Complaints) Amendment Bill 2021 (which extended a code of conduct to help protect people from sexual orientation and gender conversion practices), Aubrey gave an emotional speech disclosing his experience of coming out, depression and suicidal thoughts, declaring "I am a proud gay man" and supporting the legislation. He came out to close friends in September 2012, which he called "one of the best days of my life." He rejected criticism of LGBTQ+ MPs by Mark Latham.
