Early life & education encyclopedia

Zali Steggall was born on 16 April 1974 in Manly, New South Wales. Her family lived in France from 1978 to 1989, where she began ski racing at Morzine in the French Alps and was a member of the French junior skiing team; she returned to Australia in 1989 and was educated at Queenwood School for Girls in Sydney. After her Olympic alpine skiing career ended, she studied law and worked as a solicitor and then a barrister before entering politics.

Professional alpine skier 1990-2002, winning Olympic bronze in 1998 and the 1999 world slalom title; barrister 2008-2019. Co-founded the party Community Strong Australia with Allegra Spender in 2026.
