Australian Labor Party party platform
The 2023 ALP National Platform includes a section on "Equality for LGBTIQ+ Australians", and the party works with National Rainbow Labor to advise on LGBTIQ+ issues; Labor's Working for Women strategy is a 10-year commitment to drive action on women's safety, economic equality, health, and leadership.
Liberal Party party platform
The party's published material reports Liberal Senator Claire Chandler raising concerns in Senate Estimates about whether the Sex Discrimination Act adequately protects "biological women" in female-only spaces such as domestic violence refuges and prisons, after the Sex Discrimination Commissioner confirmed the Act's protections extend to trans women.
Australian Greens party platform
The platform commits to appointing an LGBTIQA+ Human Rights Commissioner, making gender-affirming care free and publicly accessible, funding $300 million over four years to implement the National LGBTIQA+ Health and Wellbeing Action Plan, and aligning anti-discrimination law with the Yogyakarta Principles on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Victorian Socialists party platform
The party states solidarity with LGBTIQ people who experience oppression as a result of their gender or sexual identity and describes itself as unequivocal in defending the rights of LGBTI people as part of its broader platform.
Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party party platform
The party opposes what it calls gender ideology being imposed on Australians, particularly children, and completely rejects the use of puberty blockers, hormones or surgery to treat children with gender dysphoria, supporting a "Watchful Waiting" model of care. Its senators have also introduced amendments to the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 to restore biological definitions of women and men and protect female-only spaces.
Animal Justice Party party platform
The party's platform states gender and sexuality equality is a fundamental human right, that reforms are essential to address gender and sexuality-based inequality and violence, calls for zero tolerance of sexism, homophobia, queerphobia, transphobia and misogyny, and states everyone must be supported in informed decision-making with respect to gender and sexual identity.
Family First Party party platform
Family First's platform states that marriage should be between one man and one woman, and it commits to closing child gender clinics and prohibiting puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgical intervention for minors, which it terms child abuse, along with legislation to make it an offence for a teacher to encourage a child to change gender and removal of related content from school curricula.
Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party party platform
The party states it has no policy on the same-sex marriage debate, except to protect people's freedom to hold and express their own views on the issue without fear of persecution.
Katter's Australian Party party platform
The platform included the Anti-Discrimination (Right to Use Gender-Specific Language) Amendment Bill 2018, introduced by KAP Leader Robbie Katter, which sought to enshrine in law the right to use gender-specific words such as "he", "she", "guy" and "man" and to protect gender-specific facilities such as bathrooms, in response to reports of universities penalising gender-specific language and pushes for compulsory gender-neutral bathrooms.
Libertarian Party party platform
The party's federal election platform commits to restoring the legal definition of "woman" in the Sex Discrimination Act, ensuring women can create and maintain female-only spaces such as changing rooms, repealing legislation it says forces women to accept biological males into such spaces, and allowing sporting bodies to establish female-only categories excluding biological males from women's sport.
Australian Christians party platform
The party states marriage is "not open to any combination" and advocates protecting biblical marriage; it describes the biological realities of male and female as non-negotiable, states there are better ways to support young people with gender dysphoria than medicalising them, opposes minors altering gender on official documents without parental consent, and opposes male athletes competing in female sports.
Democratic Labour Party party platform
The party pledges to mandate that athletes may only compete as the biological sex they were born with, to remove school programs that push "contested radical gender theory" or usurp parents' consent or knowledge of their child's medical care, to end efforts to remove "women" from medical descriptions with biological sex determining titles, and to repeal provisions of "anti-conversion" laws banning change or suppression of gender identity.
United Australia Party party platform
The party's policy states all citizens must have the right to a civil union recognised by the Australian Government, while marriage should be the preserve of churches, which must not be directed by government to act against their beliefs; it opposed a plebiscite on same-sex marriage as divisive. Its New Deal education policy also states Commonwealth funding will ensure classrooms are free from political influence, special interest groups and gender politics.
