Each entry is that person's own stated view, with its sources. The badge says what kind of source backs it — official record, own statement, news report or encyclopedia — which describes the evidence, not how much we believe it. Nothing is totalled or ranked; recorded votes are counted only to point to the member's record, where each is listed. See methodology.

Religious freedom

Sonya KilkennyLabor · sitting official record

As Attorney-General, Kilkenny led the Justice Legislation Amendment (Anti-vilification and Social Cohesion) reforms (passed April 2025), which repealed the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 and expanded anti-vilification protections. She stated that 'genuine and legitimate religious activities, such as worshipping, practising, proselytising and teaching religion - they will always remain someone's right in Victoria under this Government.'

Freedom of speech

Sonya KilkennyLabor · sitting official record

As Attorney-General she led the Justice Legislation Amendment (Anti-vilification and Social Cohesion) reforms (passed April 2025), which repealed the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 and expanded anti-vilification protections. She stated that 'genuine and legitimate religious activities, such as worshipping, practising and teaching' would remain lawful under the new provisions. Voted for the Justice Legislation Amendment (Anti-vilification and Social Cohesion) Bill 2024, which repealed the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 and expanded vilification protections (Legislative Assembly, combined second and third reading, 20 February 2025; Ayes 50, Noes 25).

Drugs & law and order

Sonya KilkennyLabor · sitting official record

As Attorney-General, Kilkenny was a lead announcer of the March 2025 'tough bail laws', stating the laws were 'targeted squarely at the risks of young people committing serious crimes while out on bail' and created the toughest bail tests ever for serious offences, including a presumption against bail for knife, weapon and gun offences. The reforms removed remand as a 'last resort' and added new offences for committing an indictable offence while on bail and breaching bail conditions.

Native forest logging

Sonya KilkennyLabor · sitting official record

Voted aye on 30 May 2024 on an amendment moved during the Legislative Assembly's consideration of the Sustainable Forests (Timber) Repeal Bill 2024, which repealed the Sustainable Forests (Timber) Act 2004 following the cessation of native forest logging on 1 January 2024. The question was 'That the words proposed to be omitted stand part of the question' (Legislative Assembly, 30 May 2024; Ayes 53, Noes 24; agreed to): an aye vote kept the words the amendment proposed to omit. It was a vote on the amendment, not on the bill.

Housing & planning

Sonya KilkennyLabor · sitting official record

As Minister for Planning, Kilkenny drove Victoria's Housing Statement planning reforms to boost housing supply (target of 800,000 new homes over a decade), including allowing small second homes/granny flats without a planning permit and streamlined 'townhouse and low-rise code' changes: 'These changes will boost housing supply in a way that's sensitive to every street, whether you're building a second home for your children or selling off your backyard to help someone else buy theirs.'
