Gender & LGBTQ+ policy
Renee HeathLiberal · sitting news report
Liberal MLC for Eastern Victoria, elected 2022. A social conservative and lifelong member of the City Builders' church (led in Australia by her father, pastor Brian Heath), an organisation that has been accused of historic links to gay conversion practices. Before the 2022 election, then-Liberal leader Matthew Guy said Heath would not be permitted to sit in the parliamentary party room if elected, citing the church's opposition to gay, transgender and reproductive rights; new leader John Pesutto reversed that decision and appointed her Secretary of the Parliamentary Liberal Party. She was a close ally of Moira Deeming and was demoted as party-room Secretary on 12 May 2023 during the caucus vote on Deeming's expulsion. In October 2025 her sister Clare Heath-McIvor testified to a Victorian parliamentary inquiry about conversion practices allegedly linked to the church. In October 2023 she voted for Moira Deeming's motion calling for an inquiry into gender-affirming care (defeated 21-16).
